Child bride Jana Saadoui murdered by husband in Khoy

Jana Saadoui, a 19-year-old woman from Khoy County and a victim of child marriage, was allegedly murdered by her husband, who later attempted to stage the killing as a suicide by hanging her body.

According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Saadoui, a mother of two from the village of Tarimish in the Qatur district of Khoy County, died on Tuesday, May 16, 2026, after being subjected to severe physical violence by her husband.

Saadoui had been married at the age of 17 and was raising two young children, including an infant only six months old.

Informed sources told Hengaw that the perpetrator cut off one of Jana Saadoui’s fingers after the killing before hanging her body in an attempt to fabricate a suicide scenario and conceal the circumstances surrounding her death.

The sources added that the suspect was initially detained by police in connection with the case. However, he later fled after being released temporarily and remains at large.
