Civil activist and child labor researcher Elham Salehi sentenced to one year in prison

Elham Salehi, a 37-year-old civil activist and researcher specializing in child labor issues from Tehran, has been sentenced by Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court to one year in prison.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Salehi was charged with “propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran” and “spreading false information.” She is currently being held in Qarchak Prison in Varamin.
As part of a supplementary punishment, the court also imposed a two-year ban on using social media.
Salehi was arrested on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at her home in Tehran and transferred to Qarchak Prison on August 26, 2025.
This is not the first time she has faced prosecution. In December 2024, Salehi received a six-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of 20 million tomans on similar charges, including “spreading false information,” “disturbing public opinion by insulting President Ebrahim Raisi,” and “propaganda against the state.”
