Hengaw – Tuesday, November 18, 2025

Two young women — Somiyeh Baloohi in Zahedan and Mahsa Zahedi, a 19-year-old from Saravan — have been killed in separate incidents of gender-based violence in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, carried out by a husband and a brother-in-law, respectively.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, 19-year-old Mahsa Zahedi from Dezak village in Saravan was strangled to death on Sunday, November 18, 2025, by her brother-in-law, identified only as “R.”

Her body was found on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, abandoned by the perpetrator in an old canal (“kohan”) on the outskirts of the village. Zahedi had been only days away from her engagement ceremony.

In a separate incident, on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Somiyeh Baloohi, a 32-year-old woman from Zahedan, died after being severely beaten by her husband, identified as M. Sh. According to sources, she died from serious head injuries and seizures caused by the assault.

The perpetrator attacked her during an argument, delivering multiple heavy blows to her head.

Throughout her marriage, Baloohi had repeatedly been subjected to domestic violence — both by her husband, who struggled with drug addiction, and by her in-laws. Due to the severity of the abuse, her mother had moved her to the upper floor of the family home to provide a safer environment.

Baloohi was the mother of four young children. Her husband’s family not only refused to attend her funeral but also removed the children from her mother’s home, preventing them from having a final farewell with their mother.
