Hengaw — Saturday, November 15, 2025

Three years have passed since the enforced disappearance of Osman Mameh, a Kurdish man from Bukan and one of those arrested during the Woman, Life, Freedom (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) movement. During this period, no state institution has accepted responsibility for his disappearance, and the lives of his family members have been severely disrupted.

Based on information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Mameh, born in 1968 and a father of two, was detained during the Woman, Life, Freedom movement and has remained on the list of enforced disappearances in Iran ever since.

His son, Ardalan Mameh, states that the most recent response from Iran’s security and judicial authorities was that “the case belongs to the Ministry of Intelligence,” which has refused to provide any further information.

During the same period, his 54-year-old wife, Shahin Abdolghaderi, was shot from behind with nearly 300 pellet rounds on September 29, 2022, amid the nationwide protests. She continues to suffer long-term physical and psychological harm.

Ardalan Mameh was also injured after being struck by more than 20 pellets fired by government forces. Delayed medical treatment caused lasting damage to his health.

The family of Mameh was eventually forced to flee Iran, yet the pressure, summonses and torture inflicted by security agencies continue to affect their lives.

Mameh has not made a single phone call to his family, and no document, trace or official information has emerged since his abduction by security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Shortly before his disappearance, Mameh worked as a labourer at a poultry farm in the town of Dukan in the Kurdistan Region.

Mameh, a resident of Bukan, was abducted by Iranian security forces on the evening of November 18, 2022, while returning home. His fate remains unknown.

Enforced disappearance is recognised as a crime against humanity. It occurs when a person is detained by the state or political groups and subsequently hidden without providing information about their fate or whereabouts to their family or the wider public.
