Iran’s judiciary has sentenced former political prisoner Morteza Dowlatpour, a resident of Qom, to one year of discretionary imprisonment.

According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Dowlatpour, 40, was tried by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Qom. The court convicted him on charges of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran.” His one-year sentence was later reduced to nine months of enforceable imprisonment after he accepted the verdict.

Dowlatpour, who suffers from an autoimmune disease, also carries the responsibility of caring for his elderly parents.

He was arrested on September 18, 2025, in Qom by security forces. Five days later, he was released on temporary bail pending the completion of judicial proceedings.

Dowlatpour was previously arrested in 2020. Branch 3 of the Qom Revolutionary Court convicted him of insulting Khamenei and Khomeini, sentencing him to 17 months in prison, seven months for “propaganda against the state,” and 37 months for “inciting people against national security.” He was later released on conditional parole after serving part of his sentence.
