Iran arrests five people over attendance at memorial for Khosrow Alikurdi

Iranian intelligence forces have arrested five individuals for attending the seventh-day memorial ceremony of Khosrow Alikurdi, a Kurdish lawyer and former political prisoner who died under suspicious circumstances.

Information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights indicates that Pouria Ghazi, a resident of Sabzevar, was arrested at his home in connection with his participation in the memorial ceremony, with the arrest taking place on Wednesday morning, December 24, 2025.

Mehdi Sadr Hafez, a resident of Mashhad and father of two, was arrested in Mashhad, while Yahya Landarani, from Sabzevar and also a father of two, was detained at his workplace by agents of the Intelligence Department. Both arrests were carried out on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.

Keyvan (Morteza) Keyvanlou, a Kurdish resident of Joghatai, was also arrested in the same case on Monday, December 22, 2025. During his arrest, government forces confiscated his mobile phone, as well as the phones belonging to his wife and his 13-year-old child.

In addition, another individual, Mohammad Kargar, from Sabzevar, has been arrested in recent days in connection with the same case. His current whereabouts and condition remain unknown.

According to available information, all five detainees have been charged with offenses including “propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran” and “assembly and collusion against security.”

The arrests are directly linked to participation in the seventh-day memorial ceremony for Khosrow Alikurdi, a lawyer and former political prisoner who died under suspicious circumstances in early December.
