Intelligence agents detain Mohammad Zangeneh in Mashhad, fate remains unknown

Mohammad Zangeneh, a 23-year-old man from Torbat-e Heydariyeh in Razavi Khorasan province and a resident of Mashhad, has been detained by agents of the Intelligence Department and transferred to an undisclosed location. Three days after his arrest, his fate remains unknown.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Zangeneh was arrested on Saturday evening, December 13, 2025, when government forces raided his family home in Mashhad and transferred him to an undisclosed location.
Hengaw has learned that Zangeneh was detained over posts shared on his Instagram account concerning Javad Alikurdi, the brother of Kurdish lawyer Khosrow Alikurdi, who died under suspicious circumstances.
Sources familiar with the case said the family’s repeated attempts to obtain information about his whereabouts and condition have so far been unsuccessful. They added that Zangeneh recently underwent knee ligament and meniscus surgery and is not physically able to endure prolonged detention.
No official information has been provided regarding the reasons for his arrest, his place of detention, or his current condition.
