Iranian forces kill Pouya Rostami, 23, in Ilam

Pouya Rostami, a 23-year-old Kurdish man from Badreh in Ilam Province, was shot dead by Iranian government forces during protests held last week.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Rostami, a resident of the village of Kolom in Badreh County, was killed on Thursday, January 8, 2026, after government forces opened direct fire on protesters in the city.

Sources familiar with the case said Rostami was fatally wounded after being struck by live ammunition fired by Iranian government forces.
