Iranian forces shoot dead Reza Rahmati in Malard, Tehran

Reza Rahmati, a resident of Malard in Tehran Province, was killed after being shot by forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran during public protests in the city.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, government forces opened direct fire on protesters in Malard on the evening of Wednesday, January 7, 2026, resulting in Rahmati’s death.
Sources familiar with the case told Hengaw that Rahmati was shot in the chest by government forces.
Public protests on January 7 were held simultaneously in several cities across Iran. In Malard, demonstrations drew a large turnout and were met with severe repression, including the use of live ammunition fired directly at demonstrators by Iranian government forces.
Hengaw had previously reported that at least 14 other individuals were killed on the same day in the cities of Lordegan, Chenaran, and Khoshk-e Bijar as a result of direct gunfire by government forces.
