Three January protest detainees sentenced to prison, fines in Bojnord

Iran's judiciary has sentenced three people arrested during the January 2026 protests, including two Kurds and one Turk, to a combined seven years and two months in prison and fines totaling 200 million tomans.

According to information verified by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Erfan Sajjadi, a 20-year-old Kurd, was sentenced in absentia by Branch 2 of the Bojnord Revolutionary Court in late June 2026 to six months in prison and a fine of 200 million tomans on the charge of "propaganda against the state."

Government forces arrested Sajjadi on January 8, 2026. He was released several days later on bail secured by a business license pending judicial proceedings. During his detention, government forces subjected him to physical and psychological torture.

In a separate case, Branch 107 of the Bojnord Criminal Court sentenced Arash Mirzaei, a Turk from Bojnord, to three years in prison.

Government forces arrested Mirzaei on January 4, 2026, and released him on temporary bail on January 9 pending the completion of judicial proceedings.

Ali Barati, a 25-year-old Kurd, was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison by a branch of the Bojnord Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Lajevardi, on the charge of "assembly and collusion against national security."

Government forces arrested Barati on January 9, 2026. He was released a week later, on January 15, after posting bail of 3 billion tomans.

All three were denied access to legal counsel throughout the judicial proceedings.
