Eight arrested in Gorgan, Mashhad, and Izeh

At least eight people have been arrested by Iranian government forces in the cities of Gorgan, Mashhad, and Izeh between January and February 2026.

According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the detainees include six residents of Mashhad, one in Gorgan, and one in Izeh.

Details are as follow:

Gorgan

Abdolnaser Mohaymeni, a journalist, English teacher, and former member of the Gorgan City Council, was arrested at his home in Gorgan on February 26, 2026. He has previously faced arrest due to his civic and media activities. No official information has been released regarding the charges against him or his current place of detention.

Izeh

Mohammad Ahmadi, a resident of Izeh in Khuzestan Province, was arrested in the early hours of January 12, 2026, during a raid by Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces on his parents’ home. He was subsequently transferred to Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz.

Mashhad

In Mashhad, multiple arrests have been reported over recent weeks.

On February 14, 2026, Mohammadsaeed Sabbagh Toroghi was violently arrested in the city. No information has since been made available regarding his whereabouts or legal status.

Earlier, on January 17, 2026, Mehdi Bazobandi, Mehdi Saeedi, and Amirreza Khosh Manzar were arrested separately in Mashhad and transferred to Vakilabad Prison. More than 40 days later, they remain in legal limbo.

Additionally, on January 15, 2026, two brothers — Esmaeil Sanaei and Mohammadjavad Sanaei — were arrested in Mashhad. No information has been disclosed regarding their place of detention or the charges against them.
