Journalist Amirhossein Rezaei arrested by Iranian authorities

Iranian authorities continue to withhold information about the fate and whereabouts of Amirhossein Rezaei, a journalist and political science student at the University of Tehran, three days after his arrest in Arak.

Based on reports received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, government forces raided Rezaei’s family home in Arak on the morning of Wednesday, May 6, 2026, and arrested him. Agents also searched the house and seized several personal belongings, including books and electronic devices.

Rezaei previously worked as a journalist for the newspaper Donya-e-Eqtesad. He had recently returned to his hometown of Arak after losing his job during a wave of layoffs at the outlet.

Authorities have not disclosed the reasons for his arrest, any charges against him, or the identity of the agency responsible for his detention.
