At least seven uneverisry students arrested across multiple Iranian cities

At least seven university students have been arrested by Iranian government forces in recent weeks, with no clear information available regarding their current status or conditions. The arrests took place in several cities and follow the continuing wave of detentions targeting students.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Saeed Alizadeh, a master’s student of architecture at Qazvin International University and originally from Ardabil, was arrested during a government forces’ raid on his home in Tehran on January 12, 2026. He was subsequently transferred to Great Tehran Penitentiary.
Abbas Qaragozlu, a medical student at Alborz University of Medical Sciences, was arrested by government forces on January 8, 2026, and transferred to an undisclosed location. No information has since been released about his fate.
Erfan Arabi, a 20-year-old computer engineering student at Islamic Azad University of Birjand, was arrested after being summoned to and appearing at the city’s intelligence office. He has been charged with “propaganda against the state” and “assembly and collusion against national security” and has been transferred to prison.
Ali Taheri Kia, a master’s student in film directing at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Tehran, was arrested on January 3, 2026. He was later sentenced by Branch 7 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court to two years of discretionary imprisonment on charges of “assembly and collusion against national security” in a court session that lasted less than ten minutes.
Sirus Sattarnezhad, a PhD candidate in epic literature at Shiraz University, a Konkur instructor, and a resident of Karaj, was arrested by government forces on January 7, 2026, and transferred to Great Tehran Penitentiary.
Two computer engineering students at Shahid Madani University of Azerbaijan — Sajjad Mohammadi from Zanjan and Mohammadreza Qobadi from Bijar — have been in detention for more than one month.
