Iranian-Austrian dual national Abbas Danesh arrested in Tehran, whereabouts unknown

Abbas Danesh, an Iranian-Austrian dual national, was arrested in Tehran by the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and his whereabouts remain unknown 12 days after his arrest.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Danesh was arrested in Tehran’s Fereshteh district on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Authorities have not disclosed any information about his fate or place of detention.
He had traveled to Iran to attend to personal financial and administrative matters.
Danesh’s arrest comes amid rising regional tensions and appears to be part of a broader pattern of detaining dual nationals under what observers describe as a hostage-taking policy.
