Arrest of 58-year-old Maryam Davoudian raises urgent health concerns
Hengaw – Wednesday, April 22, 2026
Maryam Davoudian, a 58-year-old from Bukan, was arrested after being summoned by judicial authorities and transferred to a security detention facility in Urmia. Her continued detention has raised serious concern due to her multiple chronic health conditions.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Davoudian was detained on Monday, April 20, 2026, after appearing before an investigative branch of the prosecutor’s office in Bukan. Hengaw has learned that a 10-day detention order was issued against her, and she was immediately transferred to a government-run detention center in Urmia for interrogation.
Sources told Hengaw that government forces had earlier raided Davoudian’s family home on Tuesday, April 14, without presenting a warrant. During the raid, her mobile phone was confiscated. She was subsequently summoned again on Saturday, April 18, and subjected to several hours of interrogation.
Sources close to Davoudian’s family report that she suffers from multiple medical conditions, including diabetes, thalassemia, and rheumatoid arthritis. The deprivation of access to essential medication and adequate medical care in detention has placed her life at serious risk.
No precise information is currently available regarding the reasons for her arrest or any charges brought against her.
Hengaw Organization for Human Rights condemns the arbitrary detention of civilians and activists, warns of the serious deterioration of Davoudian’s health, and calls for her immediate release in light of her critical medical condition.
