Teachers’ union activist Asghar Hajeb arrested in Bushehr
Hengaw – Sunday, April 26, 2026
Asghar Hajeb, a teachers’ union activist and board member of the Bushehr Teachers’ Trade Association, has been arrested by Iranian government forces in Bushehr and taken to an undisclosed location. With no information released about his fate and given his serious heart condition, concerns are growing over his health and safety.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Iranian security forces arrested Hajeb in Bushehr on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
Hajeb previously underwent major open-heart surgery and is currently living with a chronic cardiac illness. He requires continuous medication and specialized medical care.
Detention in custodial conditions, particularly under interrogation pressure, places his life at serious risk.
Several days after his arrest, Iranian authorities have refused to disclose his place of detention, legal status, any charges against him, or details of his medical condition. Repeated efforts by his family to obtain information have so far remained unsuccessful.
