Iran executes two prisoners on drug-related charges

The death sentences of two Turk prisoners from Tabriz, Akbar Molai and Javad Abedi, who had been convicted on drug-related charges, have been carried out at Tabriz Central Prison.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the executions were carried out at dawn on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Tabriz Central Prison. Molai, 38, and Abedi, 41, were executed following their transfer for implementation of their sentences.
The two prisoners had been arrested three years earlier in a joint case on charges of transporting and possessing four kilograms of narcotics, including methamphetamine and heroin. They were subsequently sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of Tabriz.
Abedi was married and the father of a seven-year-old child.
The executions have not been announced by state media or judiciary-affiliated outlets.
