Hengaw – Saturday, May 23, 2026
Hojat Al-Mohammadi, a Bakhtiari Lor political activist imprisoned in Ahvaz Central Prison (Sheyban), has been sentenced by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to 21 years of discretionary imprisonment.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the heavy sentence was recently issued by Branch 3 of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court and was officially communicated to the political prisoner in Sheyban Prison last week.
The court session addressing the charges against Hojat Al-Mohammadi was held in November 2025 before the same branch. In this case, he was tried jointly with another man identified as Mohammad Tahmasebi.
The Ahvaz Revolutionary Court prosecuted the two political activists on vague charges including “propaganda against the state,” “disrupting public order,” and “cooperation with anti-government groups (opposition groups),” sentencing Al-Mohammadi to 21 years in prison.
Hojat Al-Mohammadi, 40, is married, the father of a young child, and a resident of Izeh. He was arrested on September 16, 2024, during a raid by government agents on his home.
After enduring months of intensive interrogation in an Intelligence Ministry detention center in Ahvaz, he was eventually transferred to Ward 5 of Sheyban Prison, where he has remained imprisoned ever since.
The Bakhtiari Lor activist had previously faced multiple arrests and convictions due to his identity-based and civil activism. He was arrested on May 23, 2023, and sentenced to nine months in prison, before being released in February 2024 after completing his sentence.
He was arrested again on August 13, 2024, and released after a short period, but was detained for a third time only a few weeks later, in September of the same year.
