Hengaw – Saturday, May 30, 2026
Haidar Nekousirat, one of the detainees arrested during the January 2026 protests in Mashhad, has been sentenced to two years in prison while being denied access to specialized medical care despite suffering from severe health conditions, including kidney failure and the risk of complete blindness.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Nekousirat was recently sentenced by the Revolutionary Court of Mashhad to two years of discretionary imprisonment and is currently serving his sentence in Vakilabad Prison. No precise information has been made available regarding the charges brought against him.
According to informed sources, Haidar Nekousirat was denied access to a lawyer of his own choosing throughout both his detention and judicial proceedings.
His physical condition has deteriorated significantly due to advanced diabetes and acute kidney failure. He has already lost sight in one eye, and his remaining eye is now suffering from severe vision impairment and blurred sight as a result of diabetes-related complications.
Despite his critical condition and urgent need for specialized treatment, prison authorities and judicial officials have refused to transfer him to medical facilities outside the prison for emergency care.
