Hengaw – Tuesday, May 5, 2026

Two students from the University of Tehran, Vahid Rostami and Amirmohammad Karimi, have been arrested by Iranian government forces and remain in a state of legal limbo. At the same time, reports indicate that one of the students has been handed a heavy disciplinary sentence while still in detention.

Based on information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Vahid Rostami, a statistics student at the University of Tehran, was arrested by security forces in early March 2026. More than one month after his arrest, no precise information is available regarding his place of detention, the charges against him, or his health condition.

In a separate incident, Amirmohammad Karimi, a polymer engineering student enrolled in 2025 at the University of Tehran, was arrested by government forces approximately two weeks ago.

According to informed sources, while Karimi remains in detention, the University of Tehran’s disciplinary council held a session in absentia without his presence and sentenced him to a two-semester suspension from his studies in an unlawful procedure.
