Iran executes Turkish prisoner Shahab Azimi at Ardabil Central Prison

Iranian authorities executed Shahab Azimi, a Turkish prisoner from Ardabil who had previously been sentenced to death on charges of “premeditated murder,” at the city’s Central Prison.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the execution was carried out at dawn on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Ardabil Central Prison.

Shahab Azimi, 31, had been held in Ward 1 of Ardabil Central Prison prior to his execution. Sources state that he had been arrested approximately four years ago following a deadly altercation described as being motivated by so-called “honor-related” reasons, and had remained in detention ever since.

Iranian state media and judiciary-affiliated outlets have not officially announced the execution.
