Iran executes two prisoners in separate cases in Hamadan and Semnan prisons

Iranian authorities executed two prisoners, Esmail Aghaei and Ali Rasouli, in separate cases at Semnan and Hamadan prisons. They had previously been sentenced to death on charges related to "drug offenses" and "premeditated murder," respectively.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Esmail Aghaei, a 43-year-old father of two from Bushehr, was executed at Semnan Prison on Saturday, August 1, 2026. He had been arrested two years earlier on charges related to "drug offenses" and sentenced to death.

Aghaei was executed alongside another prisoner, Mohammad Aghaei, whose execution was reported separately by Hengaw.

In a separate case, Ali Rasouli, a 25-year-old from Hamadan, was executed at Hamadan Central Prison in the early hours of Monday, July 28, 2026. He had been arrested one year and ten months earlier on charges of "premeditated murder" before being sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.

Neither execution had been announced by Iranian state media, including outlets affiliated with the judiciary.
