Two sisters detained during January protests sentenced to 10 years in prison

Mina Kouchaki and her sister, Samira Kouchaki, both detained during the January 2026 protests in Iran, have been sentenced to a combined total of 10 years in prison and are currently serving their sentences in Tehran’s Evin Prison.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Mina Kouchaki, a mother of two, and her sister Samira Kouchaki, a mother of one, were each sentenced to five years in prison by a branch of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran.
The two sisters were transferred from Qarchak Prison to Evin Prison on February 16, 2026, where they remain incarcerated.
No precise information is available regarding the branch that issued the verdicts or the specific charges brought against the two women.
Mina and Samira Kouchaki had previously been arrested during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) movement and were later released under a government amnesty.
