Hengaw – Tuesday, July 14, 2026

Two brothers from Tehran, Rasoul and Saman Doregard, have been sentenced to a combined 12 years in prison. They were detained during January 2026 protests.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, 22-year-old Saman Doregard was sentenced by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, presided over by Judge Mohammadreza Amouzad, to 10 years in prison on charges of “assembly and collusion with the intent to act against national security.”

Doregard has remained in custody since his arrest. In late April 2026, he was transferred from Evin Prison to Great Tehran Penitentiary, also known as Fashafouyeh Prison, where he is serving his sentence.

His brother, 26-year-old Rasoul Doregard, was previously sentenced by Branch 23 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, presided over by Judge Taghizadeh, to a total of 24 months in prison, including four months to be served and 20 months suspended. The sentence took into account the time he had already spent in detention.

Rasoul Doregard was released from Great Tehran Penitentiary on temporary bail of 3 billion tomans on March 13, 2026, after spending more than two months in security detention facilities and undergoing interrogation.

The two brothers were arrested at about 4 a.m. on January 11, 2026, when Intelligence Protection Organization forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) raided their family home in Tehran’s Khavaran-Atabak neighborhood amid strikes and protests.
