IRGC Intelligence re-arrests Younes Azadbar following retirees’ protest

IRGC Intelligence forces re-arrested Younes Azadbar, a 62-year-old Gilak former prisoner and resident of Sangar, Rasht, following his participation in a retirees’ protest and transferred him to Detention Center No. 2 in the city.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Azadbar was arrested on Sunday, August 16, 2026. The case investigator set bail at 1.5 billion tomans for his temporary release.
His arrest came after he attended a retirees’ protest gathering in Rasht.
Azadbar has epilepsy and serious heart problems. Following his transfer to Detention Center No. 2 in Rasht, he has been denied access to essential medication, placing his health and life at serious risk.
Authorities have not disclosed the charges against him.
Azadbar has previously been arrested several times and sentenced to prison.
