Prisoner Abolfazl Mohammadi dies after being denied medical care

Abolfazl Mohammadi, a prisoner from Varamin, Tehran Province, died in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj after suffering a heart condition and being denied timely medical care. Prison authorities obstructed his access to treatment and deliberately delayed his transfer to a medical facility outside the prison.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Mohammadi died on Monday, September 7, 2026, due to a lack of medical care and delays in his transfer to a medical facility.

Informed sources stated that Mohammadi had previously been arrested on charges related to non-political offenses and was held for a period at Khorin Prison in Varamin. He was later transferred to Ghezel Hesar Prison to serve the remainder of his sentence.
