Baloch prisoner Jomeh Narouei dies following delayed medical care

Jomeh Narouei, a Baloch prisoner held at Kerman Central Prison, died following delayed medical care after suffering cardiac arrest.

Hengaw Organization for Human Rights has learned that Narouei, 35, from Zahedan, was married and the father of five children. He died while being transferred from the prison infirmary to Shafa Hospital in Kerman on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

In the days before his death, Narouei was repeatedly transferred to the prison infirmary as his health deteriorated. Despite his worsening condition, he remained there until suffering cardiac arrest.

After one day in the infirmary, he was returned to the general ward on August 25 despite his poor health. His condition deteriorated again on August 29, and he was readmitted to the infirmary for another day.

Narouei was arrested in 2024 on drug-related charges and transferred to Kerman Prison. Bail for his release had recently been accepted.
