Hasan Roudgar detained to begin 18-month prison term

Iranian authorities detained Hasan (Amirali) Roudgar and transferred him to Nowshahr Prison to begin serving an 18-month prison sentence. Roudgar was previously arrested during the January 2026 protests.

Based on information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Roudgar was detained on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, after reporting to the Sentence Enforcement Office in Nowshahr.

The Tonekabon Revolutionary Court sentenced Roudgar in June 2026 to four years and six months in prison for “membership in groups opposed to the country,” “disrupting national security,” and “propaganda against the state.” Following a request for a retrial in absentia, his sentence was reduced to 18 months.

Branch 102 of the Nowshahr Criminal Court II also sentenced him in April 2026 to five years in prison and 50 lashes for “disrupting public order and peace.” Following a request for a retrial in absentia, he was acquitted of the charge.

Iranian government forces initially arrested Roudgar in Nowshahr on January 26, 2026. After 15 days in detention, he was transferred to Nowshahr Prison and released on bail of five billion tomans in early March 2026.
