According to a report received by Hengaw Human Rights Organization, on Thursday, February 25, 2021, a 17-year-old girl Identity "Hedyeh Nikseyrat" from Urmia hanged herself and ended her life.
As of preparation of this report , the reason or reasons for her suicide have not been determined, but Hengaw sources have stated that Hedyeh's family has filed a lawsuit against her husband in court.
According to an informed source, Hedyeh Nikseyrat was from the village of "Jojehi" in the Soma region and a resident of Islamabad district in city of Urmia, and was married two months ago.
Lack of legal protections, explicit prohibition of child marriage, and limiting family law matters solely to the realm of private law in Iranian constitution exacerbate forced and underage marriages.
