Hengaw : The imprisonment sentence of of 2 Kurdish citizens from Mahabad, who were arrested during the wave of mass arrests of Kurdish citizens in January 2021, has been extended for the 4th time.

According to a report received by Hengaw Human Rights Organization, the imprisonment sentence of Farzad Samani and Sakar Eyni, has been extended for the 4th time and that they are still being held in the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps intelligence detention center in Urmia.

Farooq Samani, Farzad Samani's brother, told Hengaw in this regard that "On Saturday, April 10, 2021, my family went to 3rd Branch of the Mahabad Public and Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office and were informed by investigator Mehdi Sidinia that Farzad Samani and Sakar Eyni’s imprisonment sentence has been extended for the 4th time."

According to an informed source, these two Kurdish activists are under pressure from Iranian security forces to make forced confessions and cooperate with security interrogators, and their detention is being extended.

Farzad Samani, a final year graduate student in Sociology at Kharazmi University in Karaj, and Sakar Eyni, a graduate of Urban Planning at Urmia University, were simultaneously arrested by Iranian security forces in Karaj and Tehran on Saturday, January 9, 2021, and transferred to Urmia.

More than 115 Kurdish citizens were detained by Iranian security forces during the mass arrests of Kurdish citizens in January 2021.
