6 killed in an Armed conflict between Iranian Armed Forces and the forces of a Kurdish opposition party on the border of Salmas

Hengaw : At least 3 members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) have been  killed in an armed clash with forces of one of the Kurdish opposition parties in  Salmas district of West Azerbaijan (Urmia) province in Iranian Kurdistan.

According to a report received by Hengaw Human Rights Organization, at around noon on Tuesday,May 11, 2021, at least 3  Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) members were  killed in the clashes.  In contrast, 3 members of the Kurdish opposition party, were also killed .

The Kurdish groups consisted of 4 fighters which 3 of them are killed and the fate of one of them is unknown.

Hengaw sources in Salmas reported that the clash took place in the " Aghlabub" valley.

So far, the identities of two of the IRGC members who were from Salmas, named "Tohid Moradi" and "Mehdi Khalili", have been verified for Hengaw.

Sources at the same time reported that following the clashes, Revolutionary Guards artillery shelled the "Aghlabub" valley.

The IRGC's Hamzeh base in Urmia has confirmed the death of two IRGC members in a statement without mentioning the location of the clash.  In part, the statement said that all seven members of the Kurdish group had been killed.  But Hengaw’s sources in  reported that the group consisted of only 4 people, 3 of whom were killed.

As of preparation of this report , none of the Kurdish opposition parties have claimed responsibility for taking part in these clashes.
