Hengaw: January 5, 2023

For the second time in the past month, the Sanandaj Intelligence Department summoned Jabar (Hajir) Tahmasbi, the editor-in-chief of Maf, a legal publication, and put him under interrogation.

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, in the past few days, Jabar Tahmasbi, the editor-in-chief of the Maf legal publication and the director of the House of Kurdistan Non-Governmental Organizations, was summoned by the Intelligence Department in Sanandaj.

This is despite the fact that Mr. Tahmasbi was summoned by this department earlier on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.

It should be noted that, at the same time as this media activist was summoned in November, the news of the cancellation of the license of the publication under his management was announced by the Cultural and Media Deputy of Culture and Islamic Guidance of Kurdistan Province.

In this regard, Hamid Nikkhah, a native of Marivan and a designer and graphic artist for Maf magazine, was arrested on November 19, 2022, and transferred to Fashafouyeh Prison (the Greater Tehran Central Penitentiary). Later on December 5, he was released on bail.

Maf magazine, the organ of the Kurdistan Maf Scholars Legal Institute, was published for the first time in September 2018, and since then it has covered issues such as "women's rights" and "minorities' rights" with a legal focus.
