The 5-year prison sentence of Shaban Mohammadi, a member of the board of directors of the Kurdistan Teachers' Union, which was issued in absentia, was confirmed objectively after the appeal request was rejected in court.
According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, an appeal request regarding the five-year sentence of Shaaban Mohammadi's trial court was rejected in the Revolutionary Court, and this sentence was confirmed objectively.
This verdict was issued in absentia on December 8, 2022, by the Revolutionary Court in Marivan for the accusations of "propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran, insulting officials, and being a member of the opposition groups of the regime."
Shaban Mohammadi's court session was held on July 11, 2022, while this teacher was imprisoned in Evin prison, and he was not notified of the hearing.
Shaban Mohammadi, Masoud Nikkhah, and Iskandar Lotfi, three activists of the teachers' union, were arrested by IRGC intelligence forces on Sunday, May 1, 2022, and Shaban Mohammadi was released the same day.
Masoud Nikkhah was temporarily released on Wednesday, May 10, and was arrested again the next day. Also, Shaaban Mohammadi was arrested again on May 21.
Hengaw previously reported that the three Kurdish teachers are being pressured by the security forces to confess their connection with the two French citizens detained by the Ministry of Intelligence.
These two French citizens are members of the Federation of Education and Culture of the labor union in France. They were arrested by the forces of the Ministry of Intelligence and accused of communicating with teachers and workers union activists in Iran to form union protests in Iran.
