Three female students from Lar City in the Fars Province have reportedly been detained by Iranian authorities for over a month and coerced into making false confessions.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the girls — identified as 16-year-old Stayesh Darogheh, 17-year-old Amiri Amiri, and 18-year-old Irfaneh Honar — were arrested by authorities under intense psychological pressure. The authorities have accused them of communicating with the media about an alleged chemical attack on students, labeling them as "aliens" and perpetrators of the attack.
The girls were recently transferred to Adel Abad prison in Shiraz, and their families are also facing pressure and torture from security officials. Some footage of their forced confessions has been broadcast on the television program of the Islamic Republic of Iran TV, though the details of the allegations against them remain unspecified. Stayesh Darogheh, one of the girls, had previously been arrested during the uprisings in Lar City.
It would be impossible to charge these children for such allegations because the recent chemical attacks on schools were planned attacks, and it would be impossible to carry out such an act without the assistance of government agencies.
Hengaw has voiced his concern about the girls' lack of protection standards; they are considered minors under international human rights rules yet do not receive even the barest of protections under Islamic law.
The situation has raised concerns about the treatment of detainees and the use of coerced confessions in Iran.a
