Saber Khodamoradi, a religious cleric (imam) for Friday prayers from the town of Ghokh in Saqqez, has been sentenced to imprisonment and a punishment of 72 lashings by the special clerical court in Hamadan.
According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the special clerical court in Hamadan has sentenced cleric Saber Khodamoradi to 7 months' imprisonment and a punishment of 72 lashes.
According to this source, on the third hearing of the trials of Imam Saber Khodamoradi that took place in recent days, the verdict was delivered to him by the special clerical court in Hamadan on Monday, May 1, 2023.
The source added that the intelligence department has warned Imam Saber that if he continues the criticism in Friday prayers, his sentence will be executed right away.
Hengaw has been informed that the intelligence department of Saqqez has been planning to demolish the Mahwi mosque and library, which have been built and funded by the followers of the Sunni religion. Therefore, they have increased pressure on Imam Saber, who has been actively trying to stop them from demolishing the mosque.
It was further noted that Imam Saber Khodamoradi was summoned to the special clerical court in Hamadan for the second time on Sunday, January 22nd, 2023, following the widespread protests in Saqqez.
