Following the clashes in the past few days, a fierce armed conflict between the IRGC forces and the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) guerillas has taken place at the heights of the Boralan border area located in Maku, West Azerbaijan (Urmia) province. Simultaneously with this conflict, the heights of this area were targeted by heavy artillery attacks from the Islamic Republic of Iran, and reports indicated that ambulances were en route to the IRGC’s field hospital.

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on the afternoon of Saturday, June 17, 2023, an exchange of fire took place between the IRGC and the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) guerrillas between the villages of Osami, Qalajoq, and Yakhlaqan near Maku.

According to Hengaw’s sources, simultaneously with the exchange of fire between the forces of both sides, the Revolutionary Guards started heavy artillery attacks on the heights of Boralan.

These sources added that several ambulances were en route between the IRGC’s field hospital in Dim Qashlaq village and the areas where the conflict occurred. Due to the heavy conflict and the inaccessibility of the area, no further details have been available so far.

According to one of the residents of the area, the IRGC has warned the people of the Boralan area in the central district of Maku that, until further notice, public movement is prohibited on this route.

This is while on Monday last week, June 12, following the IRGC's artillery attacks on the heights of "Kosalan" mountain in Sarvabad city, scattered clashes between the IRGC forces and the Workers' Party also took place.

During these armed clashes, on the evening of Friday, June 16, 2023, a member of the IRGC named Rozgar Tabire, from Marivan, was killed, and two other members of the IRGC were injured.

Hengaw has been warning about the military movements of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the past few weeks. Since the beginning of these conflicts, the ecosystem of the region has suffered massive damage, and the environment has also been destroyed in large areas due to the fires caused by the IRGC.
