Iqbal Pishkari and Abdullah Khairabadi, both labor rights activists from Sanandaj, have been sentenced to one of them to one year and the other 20 months imprisonment by the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj.
According to the information obtained by the Hengaw organization for Human Rights, recently, Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj has sentenced Iqbal Pishkari to one year of imprisonment on the charge of "membership an opposition Kurdish parties." Abdullah Khairabadi has also been sentenced to twenty months of imprisonment on the same charges.
According to an informed source, the one-year sentence for Iqbal Pishkari has been suspended for a period of two years, while the twenty-month imprisonment for Abdullah Khairabadi has been suspended for two years and six months.
Both labor rights activists were arrested and brutally assaulted by government forces on the evening of 17th of May, at the family residence of Hooman Abdollahi, a deceased victim in the “Jin, Jian, Azadi” movement,
Eventually, Iqbal Pishkari was temporarily released on bail until the end of the trial proceedings on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, and Abdullah Khairabadi was also released on bail until the end of the trial proceedings on Tuesday, June 6th.
