During the last month, at least 61 prisoners were executed in Iranian prisons. In the previous month of June, 52 prisoners were executed.Last month, at least 4 women and 4 Afghan citizens were also executed in Iranian prisons.
Based on the statistics registered in the Statistics and Documents Center of Hengaw, in July 2023, at least 61 prisoners were executed in Iranian prisons, of whom 4 were publicly executed in the cities of Shiraz and Fouladshahr.
It should be mentioned that in July 2023, two Afghan political prisoners named Mohammad Ramez Rashidi and Saeed Naeem Hashemi Qatali were publicly executed in Shiraz, and four women were executed in Kerman, Rajaie Shahr, Karaj, and Isfahan prisons (2 cases).
More than 52% of executed prisoners were Kurdish, Baloch, or Azerbaijani-Turkish prisoners
Based on the statistics registered in Hengaw’s Statistics Center, in July 2023, at least 12 Baloch prisoners and 11 Kurdish prisoners were executed, equivalent to 37.7% of the total executions. Also, nine Azerbaijani-Turkish prisoners, equivalent to 14.7% of all prisoners, were executed.
On the other hand, during the last month, 4 prisoners of Afghan nationality, equal to 6.5% of the total number of executed people, were executed, and precise information about 11 prisoners, equal to 18% of the total number of prisoners whose identities have not been verified, is not available.
Separation by charge
It should be noted that most of the prisoners were executed for drug-related charges, 31 cases, equivalent to 50.8% of the total cases, and 22 cases, equivalent to 36% of the total cases, were executed for murder.
