Rahman Shams, a 19-year-old Kurdish citizen from Mako, was killed by his superiors at the Qasr-Shirin border with an organizational weapon inside an Iranian military base during serving his mandatory military service.
According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Saturday, August 19, 2023, Rahman Shams, a Kurdish citizen from the village of "Keshmesh Tepe" in the Mako district of West Azerbaijan (Urmia) province, was killed by an organizational weapon at the Qasr-e-Shirin border in Kermanshah province.
According to an informed source, Rahman Shams was serving his second month the mandatory military service and was killed by his superiors with direct fire from behind.
This source added that the Iranian government institutions did not give a clear answer to the question of this soldier's family while handing over his body, regarding the cause and also the identity of their son's assailant, and postponed it to the future.
Also, the family of Rahman Shams has been threatened by Iranian government institutions to refrain from reporting and mediating the news of their son's death.
Based on the statistics registered in the Statistics and Documents Center of Hengaw, in less than three months, at least eight Kurdish youths committed suicide or were killed by their superiors while serving compulsory military service.
