Joutiyar Ashrafzadeh has been sentenced to a three-year custodial sentence, and his wife, Mahvash Tavasoli, has been sentenced to two years of house arrest by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic. This young couple from Piranshahr were apprehended during their involvement in the Woman, Life, Freedom movement.
 

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organisation for Human Rights, recently, Joutiyar Ashrafzadeh was sentenced to a three-year prison term on the charge of "assembly of conspiracy and cahoots against national security," while his wife Mahvash Tavasoli was sentenced to two years of house arrest with electronic monitoring for the charge of "propaganda against the regime. These sentences were issued by the Revolutionary Court of Piranshahr.
 

According to reliable sources, the Piranshahr Intelligence Department has intensified pressure on the trial court to elevate the severity of punishment and impose heavier sentences on the couple.
 

Mahvash Tavasoli and Joutiyar Ashrafzadeh were apprehended by Iranian government forces at their residence on Thursday, October 20, 2022, amidst the popular protests in Piranshahr. Subsequently, they were granted temporary release from detention upon posting bail, which is expected to last until the conclusion of legal proceedings.
