Saro Mostajer, from Saqqez and the younger brother of Jila Mostajer, a member of the board of directors of the Hengaw Organisation for Human Rights, was forcefully disappeared by Iranian government forces and taken to an unknown location.
According to Hengaw's information, on Monday, August 28, 2023, 22-year-old Saro Mostajer from Saqqez was abducted by the Intelligence Department forces at his family residence.
Saro Mostajer, the brother of Jila Mostajer, a board member of Hengaw, has been summoned and threatened many times solely due to his sister Jila's human rights activities. Over the past year, they coerced him into making self-incriminating confessions through repeated interrogation and psychological abuse. Despite Saro's having no affiliation with the Hengaw Organisation and his relationship with his sister being only familial, the action of the Intelligence Department aimed to implicate him.
This action of the Intelligence Department of the Islamic Republic of Iran aligns with their efforts to pressure Hengaw on the eve of the 'Jin, Jiyan, Azadi' movement anniversary.
After his arrest by the forces of the Saqqez Intelligence Department, Saro Mostajer was taken to an unknown place, and there is no information available about the conditions of his detention.
Notably, over the past year, the families of Hengaw's colleagues have been repeatedly summoned and pressured by the Iranian security institutions within the country.
Furthermore, the pressure is not only limited to Iran; the members of the Hengaw Organisation have also been made aware of the threats and actions of agents of the Islamic Republic of Iran against them through the security organisations in Europe, consequently restricting their ability to travel anywhere.
Strongly condemning this act of the Iranian security institutions, Hengaw considers this heinous act a state-enforced disappearance and holds the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran responsible for Saro Mostajer's safety.
