Zainab Kazemi, an architectural engineer and a campaigner against mandatory “Hijab”, who had her candidacy for the board of directors of the Tehran Association of Engineers revoked, has been sentenced to flagging of 74 lashes by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw organization for Human Rights, Zainab Kazemi, a resident of Tehran, was recently sentenced by the branch 2 of Criminal Court of judicial complexes in Tehran, on charges of "disrespecting public virtue" to 74 lashes, taking into account her previous days in detention.

It is worth noting that the flagging sentence against Zainab Kazemi, a 38-year-old architect, has been suspended for a period of five years.

In response to this "humiliating" sentence, Zainab Kazemi wrote, "I will never regret raising the voice of justice against oppression, and I will not remain silent."

This female activist had lifted her compulsory hijab during a meeting of the Tehran Association of Engineers in February 2022 as a symbol of her protest, which led to revoking her candidacy for the board of directors of the association.
