Amjad Amini, the father of Jina Amini, was detained by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces immediately upon exiting his home, simultaneously with the anniversary of his daughter's state-sanctioned murder. He has been transferred to an undisclosed location.

According to Hangaw, on Saturday, September 16, 2023, Amjad Amini was detained by heavily armed IRGC forces in front of his residence on "Mamosta Hajjar" Street in the University neighborhood of Saqqez.

It is worth noting that despite warnings from government authorities to the Amini family not to hold commemorations for their daughter's anniversary, the Amini family declared in a statement: "Like any grieving family, we, the Amini family, will gather at the grave of our beloved daughter, Jina (Mahsa) Amini, on the anniversary of her death, and we are conducting traditional and religious commemorative ceremonies."

Amjad Amini had been summoned for questioning by various security agencies at least four times in recent weeks, particularly in the days leading up to the anniversary of the "Jin, Jian, Azadi" movement, for not holding ceremonies for his daughter, Jina Amini. During these interrogations, he faced disrespect and pressure.

This comes after Safa Aaeli, a 30-year-old family member, and Jina Amini's young uncle were also detained on Tuesday, September 12th, during a raid by intelligence forces in Saqqez and still remain in detention with uncertain custodial status.

The city of Saqqez, especially around the Amini family's residence and the roads leading to the Aichi Cemetery (Jina’s gravesite), has been heavily militarized, with security and military forces stationed in all areas equipped and armed.

Hangaw strongly condemns the unlawful detention of Amjad Amini, father of Jina Amini, and calls for the international community to closely monitor the intense militarized security situation in Kurdish cities, especially in Saqqez.
