In a tragic incident, a young woman named Yeganeh Rostami lost her life at the hands of her uncle, under what has been termed an "honor killing."
According to reports received by the Hengaw organization for Human Rights, on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, Yeganeh Rostami, a 23-year-old resident of Mahallat in “Markazi Province, was fatally shot by her uncle with a hunting rifle.
Sources with knowledge of the situation revealed that the young woman was en route from Mahallat to Tehran searching for a job when she was disembarked from a bus by his uncle in the city of Qom. After being transported to the village of "Golchesme" near Mahallat, he was shot and killed.
As it’s been revealed to Hengaw, Yeganeh Rostami had separated from her former husband just two days prior to this tragic death.
It is worth noting that the victim's body will be laid to rest in the Imamzadeh Saleh Cemetery in Mahallat on Thursday, October 5th, 2023.
Citing its reliable sources in Mahallat, Hengaw has learned that this is the third case of an honor killing in the town in the past few months. Previously, a woman was killed by her husband, and a young man was killed by his girlfriend's family in the name of “honor”.
