Prominente Kurdish “Mamosta” sentenced to imprisonment in PiranShahar

In the ongoing imprisonment sentences for Kurdish Mamostas(clerics) by the Special Court for Clerics in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mamosta Ibrahim Salimi, a resident of Piranshahr, has been sentenced to three years in prison by one of the branches of this court in Urmia.

According to reports received by the Hengaw organization for Human Rights, Mamoosta Ibrahim Salimi, the Friday prayer imam of "Chahar Yar Nabi" mosque in Piranshahr, has recently been convicted to three years of punitive imprisonment by the Special Court for Clerics in Urmia.

Hengaw has learned that this Kurdish cleric has been sentenced on charges including supporting the “Jin, Jian, Azadi” Movement, and expressing supports for protesters.

Mamoosta Ibrahim Salimi was detained by the Intelligence agency in Piranshahr on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, and was temporarily released on the 20th of February on bail in the amount of 500 million Toman pending legal proceedings. 

During this month, four other clerics from Piranshahr, Sharif Mahmoudpour, Suleiman Ahmadi, Seyyed Jamal alDin Vaziri, and Younes Naokhah, were collectively sentenced to 11 years in prison by the Special Court for Clerics in Urmia. These clerics were tried on charges of supporting the Women, Life, Freedom Movement, and facing accusations such as "endangering national security” and “disturbance in the general public’s perception”.
