Capital Punishment Implemented for an Inmate in Ghezel Hesar Prison

An inmate from Darreh Shahr city in the Ilam province was executed in Karaj Ghezel Hesar prison.

An inmate from Darreh Shahr city in the Ilam province was executed in Karaj Ghezel Hesar prison. This inmate was given a death sentence for charges related to drug crimes.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Sunday, January 28, 2024, the capital punishment of 45-year-old Mohammad Reza Ghorbani from Darreh Shahr city in the Ilam province was executed in Karaj Ghezel Hesar prison.

This inmate was taken into custody five years ago for charges related to drug crimes and eventually faced a death sentence verdict by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

It has to be noted that, yesterday, alongside Mohammad Reza Ghorbani, another inmate identified as Hossein Havasi Zadeh was transported to solitary confinement. As of now, the implementation of the death sentence for this prisoner has been temporarily called off.

Since the release of this news, there has not been any media coverage by government media outlets, specifically those that are associated with the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
