231 Kurds Arrested in Iran During First Half of 2019

HENGAW — Hundreds of Kurdish activists were arrested by Iranian security forces during the first half of 2019.
According to the data center of Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Iranian security and intelligence arrested a total of 231 people between 1st January and 30th June 2019 across the Kurdish provinces.
Among the detained individuals are 17 women, 7 underages, 2 college students, 5 school teachers, and 2 lawyers.
Classification of the detainees based on alleged accusations:
Political activities: 180 people detained.
Civil society: 27 people detained.
Porters and labor rights advocacy: 14 people detained.
Religious activities: 10 people detained.

Kurdistan Province: 108 people detained.
Western Azerbaijan Province: 78 people detained.
Kermanshah Province: 41 people detained.
Ilam Province: 4 people detained.
