Report on the arrest of four Kurdish teachers by security forces

With the arrest of another Kurdish teacher from Kamyaran, identified as Omid Hamedi, by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the number of detained teachers in the cities of Saqqez and Kamyaran has risen to four. Previously, Hengaw had reported on the arrests of Hamid Azizi in Kamyaran and Azad Khadem and Abdollah Karim Golan in Saqqez.  

According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Saturday, December 7, 2024, Omid Hamedi, a teacher at Shahed High School in Kamyaran, was arrested. His arrest took place at his workplace, and intelligence agents subsequently took him to his home, where they conducted a thorough search and confiscated his personal belongings.  

Earlier, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, Hamid Azizi, who holds a Ph.D. in Communication and Media Studies from Allameh Tabatabai University in Tehran and serves as a teacher in Kamyaran’s education system, was arrested. This followed his summons to the security office of Kamyaran's Education Department. After reporting to the office, he was detained and transferred to an undisclosed location.  

Hamid Azizi had been teaching in two village schools in Kamyaran: Pālangan and Gāzer-Khāni.  

Additionally, on Monday, November 25, 2024, two teachers from Saqqez, Abdollah Karim Golan and Azad Khadem, were arrested in the city.  

Among them, Abdollah Karim Golan was temporarily released on December 6 after posting bail, pending the completion of legal proceedings. The three other teachers remain in the custody of security agencies in Sanandaj.  

As of the time of this report, no precise information is available about the reasons for the arrests or the charges against these teachers.
