Number of Kurds arrested in Sarpol- e Zahab rises to 8
Hengaw: Saturday, December 21, 2024
With the identification of another arrested Kurdish man, Kaveh Sohrabi, the total number of individuals detained in Sarpol- e Zahab last week has risen to eight. Hengaw had previously reported the arrest of seven individuals during the same period. Their arrests are linked to sharing posts on Instagram about the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Kaveh Sohrabi, 22 years old and a resident of Sarpol-e Zahab, has been in detention for seven days, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
Kaveh Sohrabi was violently arrested on Sunday, December 15, 2024, during a raid by IRGC intelligence forces on his home.
Hengaw had previously reported the arrest of seven other individuals identified as Omid Salehi (17), Ayman Safaei (21), Komar Salehi (23), Hêmin Palani (25), Erfan Moradi (25), Khaled Kamari (27), and Payam Ranjbar (27) on the same day in Sarpol-e Zahab.
These individuals were arrested on charges related to "posting content on social media and celebrating the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government."
The state-run Fars News Agency, without disclosing their identities, reported statements from the Sarpol-e Zahab prosecutor, claiming the IRGC intelligence forces had arrested members of a "radical blasphemous network."
Hengaw has learned that the detainees have been transferred to a security detention center in Kermanshah. Their conditions and whereabouts remain unknown.
