Security forces arrest two Kurds in Mahabad

The ongoing wave of arrests targeting Kurds by Islamic Republic of Iran security forces has continued with the detention of two individuals, Jamal Sheikhehpour and Afshin Khalifehzadeh, in Mahabad.

According to a report obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, in the early hours of Sunday, December 29, 2024, agents from the Intelligence Department arrested Jamal Sheikhehpour and Afshin Khalifehzadeh, two residents of Qom Qaleh, a village near Mahabad. They have been transferred to an undisclosed location.

Reports indicate that the arrests were conducted without the presentation of arrest warrants and involved the use of excessive force at the individuals’ homes.

As of this writing, no details have been made available regarding the reasons for the arrests, the charges against the detainees, or their current whereabouts.
